Literary Context
Psalm 1 opens the Psalter by contrasting two paths and two kinds of people: the one who avoids harmful influence and instead centers life on the LORD’s instruction (vv. 1–2), and the one who does not (vv. 4–6). Verse 3 continues the description of the first person by shifting from direct description to a concrete picture from everyday life: a tree near dependable water. That picture sets up the later contrast, where the alternative is not a stable, rooted plant but something light and driven away. The logic moves from inner focus (delight/meditation) to outward outcome (fruit/prospering).
