Literary Context
Psalm 121 is a short “Song of Ascents,” likely used as travelers went up toward Jerusalem. The psalm begins with the speaker looking for help and immediately answers that help comes from Yahweh (vv. 1–2). It then reassures the listener that the keeper of Israel stays alert and protective (vv. 3–4). The images move from general protection to close, personal care (vv. 5–7), and the final verse gathers all of that into a compact summary. Verse 8 functions as the conclusion: the earlier promises are restated as total coverage in every direction and across all time.
