Literary Context
Psalm 134 closes the “Songs of Ascents” collection (Psalms 120–134), often associated with worship connected to travel toward Jerusalem. Within the psalm, the first part addresses Yahweh’s servants who stand in the house of Yahweh at night, urging them to lift hands and bless Yahweh (vv. 1–2). Verse 3 answers with a blessing directed back toward the worshipers: the God praised in the sanctuary is the one who can bless. The logic moves from human praise offered at the temple to divine blessing spoken from Zion.
