Literary Context
Psalm 149 is a praise song that calls the community to celebrate Yahweh with singing, dancing, and instruments, especially as “his faithful ones” gather (see Psalm 149:1–3). Verse 4 functions as a key “because” line: it provides the reason the worshipers should rejoice. The psalm then continues by describing the joy and confidence of the faithful, and later speaks of judgment against nations (see Psalm 149:5–9). Within that flow, v. 4 anchors the celebration in God’s favor and in the uplifting of those who are lowly.
