Worldwide turning and worship because Yahweh rules The psalm envisions people everywhere “remembering” and then turning to Yahweh. Worship is not limited to Israel; whole family lines among the nations bow “before you.” The reason follows: the kingship belongs to Yahweh, and he rules the nations, so worldwide worship matches the reality of his authority.
Worship includes both the powerful and the dying The picture includes “all the rich ones” eating and worshiping, suggesting a feast-like setting joined to reverence. It also includes those “going down to the dust,” meaning people at the edge of death, and even the one who cannot keep himself alive. The point is breadth: social strength and human frailty both end up bowing before him.
Worship continues through time by testimony to the unborn The response does not stop with one generation. “Posterity” serves Yahweh, and future generations are told about the Lord. Those future people then come and announce his “righteousness” to yet-unborn people, ending with a final explanation: “For he has done it,” presenting the basis for the continuing message.
Literary Context
Psalm 22 moves from intense suffering and public scorn to confidence that God will answer and a vow to praise. The later portion widens the lens: the speaker’s rescue becomes a trigger for public praise and then for global worship. Verses 27–31 form the closing vision, presenting a chain of response: people “remember,” turn, worship, and then tell later generations. The ending line (“he has done it”) functions like a concluding declaration that the decisive act has occurred, anchoring all the promised outcomes in what Yahweh has accomplished.
Historical Context
The imagery assumes an Israelite worship setting where praise is offered to Yahweh and where the nations are usually seen as distinct peoples with their own families and territories. Speaking of “all the ends of the earth” and “all the relatives of the nations” reflects a world of many kinship-based groups, not a modern nation-state map. “Going down to the dust” uses common ancient language for dying and returning to the earth. The emphasis on telling “future generations” fits an oral, communal culture where identity and loyalties are reinforced by repeated public recounting of major events.
Theological Significance
These verses close Psalm 22 with a widened horizon: the speaker’s deliverance becomes a picture of worldwide worship. The text’s own logic is clear: people across the world “remember,” turn to Yahweh, and bow in worship because Yahweh already reigns over the nations (vv. 27–28). The repeated language of “all” () pushes toward breadth—across geography (“ends of the earth”), people groups (“families/relatives of the nations”), social position (“the rich”), and human condition (even those near death).

Some differences focus on what “remember” means (v. 27). It can be read as people recalling what they already knew about Yahweh, or as people coming to awareness because of a specific act of God that becomes widely known.
Another difference concerns how literal the imagery is in v. 29. “Eat and worship” may describe an actual feast connected to worship, or it may be a poetic way to say that even the well-supplied and secure still bow before God.
A third difference is how strictly to take the repeated “all.” Some read it as a universal outcome that will include every person without exception. Others read it as the full spread of peoples and classes—worldwide in scope—without claiming that every individual will respond.
The passage is poetic and uses sweeping language (“all,” “ends of the earth”), which can function either as comprehensive prediction or as a way of describing maximum scope. Also, key phrases are short and evocative (“remember,” “eat and worship,” “he who can’t keep his soul alive”), inviting more than one plausible way of filling in the background details.
