Literary Context
Psalm 24 moves from a wide claim about Yahweh’s ownership of the world (vv. 1–2) to a focused concern about entering Yahweh’s sanctuary area (vv. 3–6), and then to a closing scene that sounds like a liturgy for welcoming the King into the city or temple (vv. 7–10). Verse 3 is the pivot: since Yahweh is sovereign over all creation, the next question is who may draw near to him in a special, set-apart place. Similar “who may dwell/approach” questioning appears elsewhere, such as Psalm 15:1.
