35:1-3Meaning
God is asked to enter the conflict as defender The speaker addresses Yahweh and asks him to oppose the people opposing the speaker. The request is stated twice for emphasis: “contend” with those who contend, “fight” those who fight. The prayer then paints God taking up defensive gear (shield and buckler) and standing up to help. It escalates to offensive action: draw a spear and block the path of pursuers. The unit ends with a personal, inward request—God should tell the speaker directly that God will rescue and protect.
