Second, “the voice of the enemy” (v. 3) can be taken as direct threats, as accusations in public, or as slander/rumor that mobilizes harm. The passage does not specify which kind of “voice,” but it clearly treats words as part of the oppression.
The phrases “hide yourself” and “voice of the enemy” are broad and can cover multiple real-life scenarios. Also, the poem uses heightened emotion (“terrors of death”) that can be read as either literal life-threatening danger or as figurative language for overwhelming fear.
