Historical Context
Many psalms are associated with experiences of danger, political conflict, and personal vulnerability in Israel’s life, especially in and around the period of the early monarchy. In such a world, individuals could face threats from rivals, local powers, and shifting loyalties, with limited protection beyond kinship networks and the king’s reach. Public and private worship in Israel also trained people to answer crisis with prayer and praise, not only complaint. This short unit reflects that social reality: fear is real, human harm is possible, and yet the speaker treats God’s spoken commitment as a stable ground for courage.
