Literary Context
Psalm 57 moves between urgent need and confident praise. The psalm begins with a plea for protection and a description of enemies, then expresses trust that God will act from heaven. Verse 5 functions like a chorus line that interrupts the threat narrative with worship, widening the frame from a local crisis to the whole cosmos. After this refrain, the psalm continues to speak about snares and danger, then later turns more fully to thanksgiving and public praise, echoing the same “be exalted” language again near the end.
