Bible Reliability / Answer across Scripture
Apparent tensions should be read carefully by distinguishing real conflict from differences in genre, perspective, sequence, emphasis, and purpose.

Bible Reliability
Some parts of the Bible can appear to stand in tension with one another, especially when readers compare passages without attending to genre, sequence, emphasis, or authorial purpose. Difference is not automatically contradiction, and careful reading should not pretend every question is easy. The better starting point is to read each passage closely, identify what each author is actually claiming, and then ask whether the claims truly conflict.
Proverbs places opposite-sounding instructions side by side, showing that faithful reading must pay attention to situation, purpose, and wisdom. Luke's careful prologue also reminds readers that Scripture invites patient attention rather than quick dismissal or forced answers.
Proverbs 26:4-5 is a simple example of two sayings placed side by side that require wisdom for the situation. Luke 1:1-4 shows that the Gospel writers cared about ordered testimony, even while each Gospel has its own emphasis and arrangement.
Key passages
1Like snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not fitting for a fool.
2Like a fluttering sparrow, Like a darting swallow, So the undeserved curse doesn`t come to rest.
3A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, And a rod for the back of fools!
4Don`t answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him.
5Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes.
6One who sends a message by the hand of a fool Is cutting off feet and drinking violence.
7Like the legs of the lame that hang loose: So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
1Because many have undertaken to draw up a narrative concerning those matters which have been fulfilled among us,
2even as they delivered them to us, who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word,
3it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus;
4that you might know the certainty concerning the things in which you were instructed.
One mistake is to say every tension is fake before reading closely. Another is to assume every difference is an error. Bible & Context aims to model patient reading, genre awareness, and attention to what each passage actually says.
