Literary Context
Revelation 8 moves from the opening of the seventh seal to a sequence of trumpet blasts that introduce escalating judgments. After a dramatic pause in heaven and an angel’s incense-associated action, seven angels prepare to sound. The first trumpet strikes the land (8:7), and the second shifts to the sea (8:8–9), continuing a pattern of targeted blows on major parts of the created order. The language is vivid and comparative (“something like”), presenting a visionary scene whose effects are described in concrete outcomes.
