This theme appears in passages such as Amos, where the Bible develops it through story, instruction, warning, and promise. In Amos 3:13–15, the speaker calls for witnesses to hear and report a charge against “the house of Jacob.” The passage then describes a coming “day” when God will act against Israel’s wrongdoing, targeting both major religious sites and elite wealth. In Amos 6:1–3, Amos announces “woe” over leaders who feel safe and comfortable in both Zion and Samaria. He identifies them as prominent people others look to, yet their confidence is misplaced.
