Living waters flowing out year-round “In that day” a stream of “living waters” goes out from Jerusalem. The water divides, with one portion flowing toward the eastern sea and another toward the western sea, implying reach in opposite directions. The flow is constant—summer and winter—so it is not dependent on rainfall cycles or a temporary surge.
Worldwide kingship and unified name Yahweh is said to become King over all the earth. The verse then restates the point as unity: in that day Yahweh is “one,” and his name is “one,” presenting an undivided recognition of who rules and what he is called.
Land transformed and Jerusalem’s boundaries stabilized “All the land” is made like the Arabah, stretching from Geba in the north to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. Against that leveling, Jerusalem itself is “lifted up” and remains in its place. The city’s extent is then traced by well-known reference points: from Benjamin’s gate to other gates and corners, and from the tower of Hananel to the king’s wine-presses, portraying a clearly defined, re-established city footprint.

In that setting, a vision of Jerusalem as well-watered, elevated, and safely inhabited directly addresses everyday vulnerabilities: limited resources, insecure defenses, and uncertain political standing.
