Literary Context
This line comes inside Zechariah’s vision sequence where Joshua the high priest is at the center of a divine message and public reassurance (the scene has already established Joshua’s office and standing). The verse reads like a turning point: after addressing Joshua personally, it widens to include his fellow priests, then explains why they matter in the story—they are a “sign.” The final clause introduces a new promised figure (“my servant, the Branch”), shifting from present leadership to an expected act of God that will define what comes next in the message.
