He carefully locates them: one stands on the right side of the lampstand and the other on the left. His question assumes these trees are not mere scenery but part of the message.
A second, more detailed question about branches, spouts, and oil Zechariah asks again, “the second time,” showing his first question did not settle the matter. Now he narrows in on “two olive branches” positioned beside “two golden spouts.” He describes what these spouts do: they empty or pour “the golden oil” out from themselves, emphasizing an active, continual-looking flow from the olive sources into the lamp system.

Zechariah’s visions come from the early Persian period, when a returned Judean community in and around Jerusalem was rebuilding its religious and civic life under imperial oversight. Olive oil was a common fuel for lamps in the ancient Near East, so the picture of olive trees feeding oil to lamps would naturally suggest ongoing supply, provision, and the practical means by which light continues.

He asks the interpreting figure about the of the oil that keeps the lampstand supplied: first the two olive trees (one on each side), then more narrowly the two olive branches and the two “golden spouts” that pour out “golden oil.”
