15:1Meaning
A prophet is stirred The passage first states that “the Spirit of God” comes on Azariah son of Oded. This frames what follows as a Spirit-driven message rather than merely Azariah’s personal opinion.
Unit 2 (v. 2a): The prophet intercepts the king and addresses the whole community
Azariah goes out to meet Asa and calls for attention: “Hear me.” Even though the prophet is meeting the king, he deliberately includes “all Judah and Benjamin,” treating the coming message as a public rule for the entire people.
Unit 3 (v. 2b): A conditional rule with three matched outcomes
Azariah states a pattern in three parts. First, “Yahweh is with you while you are with him,” linking divine presence to their allegiance. Second, “if you seek him, he will be found by you,” promising accessibility in response to pursuit. Third, “if you forsake him, he will forsake you,” warning that abandonment will be met with abandonment (using the same idea in both directions, forsake).
