3:11Meaning
Moses questions his fitness and the scale of the task Moses speaks directly to God with two linked concerns: his own status (“Who am I?”) and the daunting mission. The mission is framed in two parts: going to Pharaoh (the confrontation) and bringing the Israelites out of Egypt (the outcome). The wording shows Moses feels the problem is both personal inadequacy and practical impossibility.
Unit 2 (v. 12a): God answers with presence, not a résumé
God replies with a simple assurance: “Certainly I will be with you.” The answer meets Moses’ “Who am I?” by redirecting the focus from Moses’ capability to God’s accompanying presence during the mission.
Unit 3 (v. 12b): God gives a confirming sign located in the future
God adds that there will be a “token” (a confirming sign) that God is the one who sent Moses. The sign is not immediate; it is tied to the mission’s completion: when Moses has brought the people out, they will serve/worship God on “this mountain.” The promised future gathering at the same location is presented as confirmation that the sender was truly God.
