Strength that produced ruling power
From the vine grew “strong rods,” pictured as suitable for the scepters of those who ruled. The vine’s growth rises high among thick boughs, and its height is noticeable. The verse stresses both capability (strength for rule) and visibility (a prominent, towering presence).
Unit 3 (vv. 10–11 together): A portrait of earlier prominence
Taken together, the two verses present a “before” picture: abundant provision leads to fruitfulness, expansive growth, and leadership strength. The language sets up a contrast with the ruin described in the next part of the lament (Ezekiel 19:12–19:14).
