3:5Meaning
Moses faithful, but in a servant role Moses is praised as “faithful in all his house,” but the writer frames his place as that of a servant inside the household. His faithful service is also described as “a testimony,” meaning it functioned as witness or support for messages that would be spoken later.
Unit 2 (v. 6a): Christ faithful in a Son role, positioned over the house
In contrast, Christ is presented “as a Son, over his house.” The difference is not that Moses was unfaithful, but that Christ’s status and position relative to the house are higher: not merely within it as a servant, but over it as Son.
Unit 3 (v. 6b): The audience as the house, with a perseverance condition
The writer then says, “whose house are we,” identifying the community as God’s household (house). This identification is attached to a condition: “if we hold fast” to their bold confidence and the proud joy of their hope, keeping it firm all the way to the end. The logic is that continued steadfastness is the mark that they are truly this household.
