God’s promise to Abraham, confirmed by God’s own oath God promised Abraham blessing and increased descendants, and then swore by himself because there is no greater reference point than God (v. 13). The quoted content of the oath is a strong assurance: blessing will happen and multiplication will happen (v. 14). The writer then summarizes Abraham’s posture and outcome: he endured patiently, and in that way he obtained what was promised (v. 15).
