Literary Context
This verse sits at the end of a larger denunciation in Hosea 10 where Israel is compared to a fruitful vine that misused its prosperity, multiplying altars and false confidence. The chapter moves from exposing misplaced worship and divided loyalty (10:1–2), to announcing that political supports and cult centers will not survive (10:3–7). Verse 8 concludes that movement by focusing on the fate of the “high places” and the psychological effect on the people: what they built for security and devotion becomes wasteland, and fear replaces celebration.
