Unit 1 (v. 10a): Following Yahweh after the roar
The people are described as “walking after Yahweh,” a simple image of choosing him as their leader. Yahweh is then compared to a lion who roars, highlighting a powerful summons that can be both alarming and commanding.
Unit 2 (v. 10b): Children return trembling from the west
After Yahweh roars, “the children” respond by coming back “trembling” (trembling). The direction “from the west” portrays return from outside the land; the emphasis is on a fearful, urgent movement toward Yahweh.
Unit 3 (v. 11a): Like birds coming from Egypt and Assyria
The return is expanded with two vivid comparisons: like a bird from Egypt and like a dove from Assyria. The images suggest quick, instinctive flight back to safety, and they name major foreign locations connected to Israel’s real political world.
Unit 4 (v. 11b): Yahweh resettles them in their houses
The outcome is not merely arrival but stable dwelling: Yahweh promises to make them live in their “houses.” The divine speech formula (“says Yahweh”) underlines this as a firm commitment, aiming at restored normal life in the land.
