10:12Meaning
After Zion, judgment turns toward Assyria The verse begins with “therefore,” linking back to what has been described about Assyria’s actions and the situation in Jerusalem. It says that when the Lord has completed his “whole work” on Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will punish the “fruit” of the Assyrian king’s stubborn pride and the show of his arrogant look. The timing matters: Assyria is not addressed last because it is unimportant, but because another phase of events involving Jerusalem is described as being completed first.
