Literary Context
This single verse functions like a bright opening after the grim announcements just before it. Isaiah 2–4 contains sharp criticism of pride, social breakdown, and coming loss; it especially highlights how Jerusalem and Judah will be brought low. Against that backdrop, Isaiah 4:2 begins a new movement: after the “day” of bringing down arrogance, there will be a “day” when something new grows and is admired. The verse does not yet explain the steps of that renewal; it states the result—beauty, honor, and fruitful land—aimed at a surviving portion of Israel.
