47:1Meaning
From throne to dust Babylon is addressed as a “virgin daughter,” a way of picturing the city/kingdom as an untouched, secure young woman. She is commanded to come down and sit in the dust—an image of mourning, defeat, and loss of status. “Without a throne” makes the reversal explicit: her royal security is removed. The reason given is that she will no longer be treated as “tender and delicate,” meaning her former reputation for ease and luxury will end.
