Literary Context
Isaiah 62 sits in a stretch focused on Zion/Jerusalem’s renewal and public honor after a period of disgrace. Just before this, the speaker refuses to keep quiet “for Zion’s sake” until its vindication shines out (62:1), and Jerusalem is pictured as receiving a new name and status (62:2–5). Verses 6–7 match that momentum by shifting from the speaker’s resolve to a sustained, communal vigilance: appointed watchers must keep speaking and keep praying until the promised change is visible. The next verses continue with promises and public announcements of Jerusalem’s reversal (62:8–12).
