19:14Meaning
Return and location of the announcement Jeremiah comes back from Topheth, the place where Yahweh had directed him to prophesy. He then positions himself in the temple court, a public and religiously significant space, and speaks “to all the people,” presenting the message as open and communal rather than private.
Unit 2 (v. 15a): Speaker, title, and scope
Jeremiah introduces the message as Yahweh’s own words, calling him “Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel.” The announcement is comprehensive: what is coming is directed at “this city” and also “all its towns,” meaning the wider district connected to Jerusalem.
Unit 3 (v. 15b): Certainty of the announced disaster
Yahweh says he will bring “all the evil” he has previously spoken about. The point is continuity between earlier pronouncements and the impending outcome: the threatened calamity is presented as the execution of what was already declared.
Unit 4 (v. 15c): Reason given—stubborn refusal to listen
The stated reason is that the people “made their neck stiff,” a picture of resisting correction. Their goal is described as not hearing Yahweh’s words, framing the crisis as persistent refusal rather than lack of information.
