Jeremiah context is set in the kingdom period, where Israel's monarchy from David and Solomon to exile.
Jeremiah exposes how deep Judah’s unfaithfulness runs and why judgment is unavoidable. Yet the same God who disciplines like a wounded lover also promises to gather, heal, and rebuild through a lasting covenant renewal.
The book opens with Jeremiah’s call and early visions that set his mission to confront and to build. A long run of speeches brings covenant charges, warnings, and laments; symbolic actions and public messages press the point; then hope breaks in with promises of return and a new covenant.
Read it as prophetic preaching shaped by real crisis: strong images, courtroom-style accusations, and grief-filled prayers. Track the repeated pattern of charge, refusal, announced consequences, and renewed invitations to return, especially where judgment is paired with restoration.
The setting is Judah’s last turbulent decades as the kingdom unravels and foreign pressure grows, ending in conquest and exile. Religious reform did not produce lasting change; idolatry, mixed worship, and injustice persisted. Jeremiah speaks into that collapse with warnings and future hope.
