It continues by naming “boasters,” who will be exposed as fools, and “mighty men,” who will lose courage and be thrown into confusion (Jeremiah 50:36).

Historical Context
“Chaldeans” and “Babylon” point to the Neo-Babylonian Empire, the power that conquered Jerusalem and deported many Judeans in the early sixth century BC. Jeremiah’s audience had lived under Babylon’s dominance and would hear this as a reversal of fortunes for the imperial center and its ruling class. The references to princes, wise men, mighty men, horses, chariots, and treasures match typical features of an ancient imperial capital.
