Unit 1 (v. 25a): The speaker and the announced action
Yahweh identifies himself with titles that stress command and national identity (“Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel”). He then signals certainty with “Behold” and states the core action: he will “punish” Egypt.
Unit 2 (v. 25b): Named targets inside Egypt
The punishment is aimed at a representative list: Amon of No (a key religious focus), Pharaoh (the ruler), “Egypt” as a whole, “her gods,” and “her kings.” The repetition (“even Pharaoh”) underlines that the top leadership is not exempt, and it extends to “those who trust in him,” meaning supporters and dependents tied to Pharaoh’s security.
Unit 3 (v. 26a): The means and agents of Egypt’s downfall
The consequence is described as being handed over into the power of people “who seek their lives.” The text then specifies those agents: Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and his servants. The repeated phrase “into the hand” emphasizes capture and control by an outside force (cf. hand).
Unit 4 (v. 26b): A later return to ordinary life
After the handover and defeat, a new time marker appears: “afterwards.” Egypt “shall be inhabited” again, compared to “the days of old,” suggesting a return to stable settlement like earlier periods. The oracle closes by reaffirming the source of the statement: “says Yahweh.”
