Jeremiah’s defense rests on a simple claim: his message did not originate with him. He says Yahweh sent him, and that he delivered “all the words” they already heard (v.12, v.15). The threat against “this house” and “this city” is therefore presented as divine warning, not personal agitation.

Another question is how far “innocent blood” reaches (v.15). Some understand it mainly as personal guilt for unjust execution. Others stress a wider, shared liability: the leaders and community, and even the city as a whole, are implicated when they silence a true messenger.

The passage uses everyday courtroom-and-crisis language (“sent,” “in your hand,” “innocent blood”) rather than technical definitions.
