2:26Meaning
Shame when exposed Jeremiah compares Israel’s shame to a thief’s shame when caught. The whole "house of Israel" is included, and the list of groups—kings, princes, priests, prophets—highlights that the embarrassment is shared from top to bottom.
Unit 2 (v. 27a): Calling wood and stone family
The people address a wooden idol as "my father" and a stone as "you gave birth to me." The point is not subtle: they speak to manmade objects as if those objects are their source and protector.
Unit 3 (v. 27b): Back turned, then crisis prayer
They have turned their back to God instead of facing him, signaling rejection or avoidance. But when "trouble" arrives, their posture flips into emergency language: "Arise, and save us"—a plea for immediate intervention.
