Jhn 13:6–7
Peter questions the appropriateness of Jesus washing his feet. Jesus replies that Peter does not understand “now,” but will understand “after these things.”
Jhn 13:8
Peter refuses. Jesus responds that unless he washes Peter, Peter has no share with him.
Jhn 13:9–10
Peter swings to requesting more washing. Jesus distinguishes a full bath from the need to wash feet after walking, concluding that the bathed person is clean, and applies this to the group while noting an exception.
Jhn 13:11
The narrator explains the exception: Jesus knew who would betray him, which is why he said not all were clean.
