Access into the high priest’s courtyard Peter follows Jesus, but another disciple is mentioned alongside him. This other disciple is “known” to the high priest and can go into the courtyard with Jesus. The setting is the high priest’s residence compound in Jerusalem during the night hours, when detentions and preliminary questioning could occur under elite oversight. A charcoal fire would be plausible for a cold night, especially during the Passover season when evenings can be chilly.
