Shared ground
Joshua 11:6–7 presents a tight sequence: a threatening coalition, Yahweh’s assurance to Joshua, a time-specific promise of victory, and Joshua’s immediate, sudden attack at the waters of Merom. Explicitly, the text says Yahweh addresses Joshua, tells him not to fear “because of them,” and states that by “tomorrow at this time” the enemy will be “delivered up” before Israel, “all slain.” It also includes specific instructions aimed at neutralizing the enemy’s military edge: hamstringing horses and burning chariots. Joshua then moves with “all the people of war” and strikes suddenly.
