Literary Context
These verses conclude the prose narrative of Deborah, Barak, and the defeat of Sisera in Judges 4. After the battle and Sisera’s death, the narrator zooms out to summarize the political outcome: the Canaanite king’s dominance collapses, and Israel’s advantage continues to grow. Judges 5 then retells the same events in poetic form, so 4:23–24 also acts as a bridge into that song.
