vv. 41–42: Complaint and sanctuary signal
The next day the congregation accuses Moses and Aaron of bringing about the deaths of “the people of Yahweh.” As the assembly gathers in opposition, the narrative highlights the tent of meeting as the cloud covers it.
vv. 43–45: Threatened sweeping judgment
Moses and Aaron come to the front of the tent of meeting. Yahweh commands separation from the congregation and threatens a sudden consuming judgment; Moses and Aaron respond by falling facedown.
vv. 46–48: Censer, incense, and the stopping of the plague
Moses instructs Aaron to take a censer, put fire from the altar in it, add incense, and go quickly to the congregation because the plague has begun. Aaron runs into the midst of the assembly and stands between the dead and the living until the plague is halted.
vv. 49–50: Casualties and closure
The narrator reports 14,700 deaths from the plague (excluding those connected with Korah’s matter). Aaron returns to Moses at the entrance of the tent of meeting, and the text reiterates that the plague has stopped.
