Proverbs reflects Israel’s wisdom tradition, aimed at shaping everyday judgment in family and community life. In an ancient town setting, “streets,” “squares,” and “corners” were natural places for foot traffic, commerce, and social contact, so they also became places where vulnerable people could be targeted. A household was expected to be a key sphere of stability and reputation, so describing someone as never “staying” at home signals social disorder as well as availability. The passage uses recognizable public space and social expectations to make the warning concrete and memorable.
