Literary Context
Psalm 101 reads like a set of vows about how the speaker intends to live and rule, moving from praise and intent (v.1) into concrete commitments (vv.2–8). Verse 2 functions as an early foundation: before listing what will and will not be tolerated in the wider community, the speaker begins with self-watchfulness and home life. The movement in v.2 goes from a resolved plan (“I will be careful”) to a prayerful appeal (“When will you come to me?”) and then to a specific arena for integrity (“within my house”).
