Literary Context
Psalm 117 is the shortest psalm and reads like a compact hymn meant for shared worship. Verse 1 (just before this) summons “all nations” and “all peoples” to praise, and verse 2 answers the natural question: why should everyone praise? It offers two tightly linked reasons—Yahweh’s strong loyal love toward “us” and Yahweh’s never-ending faithfulness—then closes with a brief acclamation. The logic is simple: invitation to praise, reasons to praise, final shout of praise (cf. Psalm 117:1).
