Literary Context
Psalm 122 is a travel-and-worship song centered on going to Jerusalem and desiring its well-being. Earlier lines celebrate arrival and the city’s role as a gathering place, then move into calls to seek the city’s peace. Verse 8 narrows from public exhortation to personal resolve: the speaker will actively say peace because of relational ties within the community. The verse also prepares for the next line’s similar pattern (“for the house of the LORD… I will seek your good”), showing a twofold motivation: people and place of worship.
