Second, how did the snare break? The verse states the result, not the mechanism. Some readers treat the broken snare as implying outside intervention, especially since the psalm moves immediately to naming the source of help in the next verse (v. 8). Others say the picture can remain general: the outcome is deliverance, without specifying how it happened.

Why the disagreement exists The Hebrew poetry is intentionally compact. It gives a vivid outcome (“escaped… snare… broken… escaped”) without explaining whether the escape happened through an unlikely opening, a sudden failure of the trap, or a rescuer breaking it. Likewise, “soul” can mean an individual life, a group’s life, or the whole self in various contexts, so readers weigh the communal “we” differently.

What this passage clearly contributes This verse contributes a strong image for describing rescue from an active, intelligent threat (“fowlers” who set traps). It highlights vulnerability (a bird versus a trapper), decisive reversal (the snare is broken), and certainty (escape stated twice).
