Literary Context
Psalm 125 is part of the Songs of Ascents (Psalms 120–134), short pilgrimage-like poems that often focus on security, community life, and dependence on Yahweh. Earlier lines in Psalm 125 emphasize stability and protection for those who trust Yahweh and anticipate that oppressive rule will not last, so that the righteous are not pushed into wrongdoing (Psalms 125:1–3). Verse 4 asks Yahweh to do good to the good. Verse 5 completes the poem by adding the matching negative outcome for those who choose crooked paths, and then sealing the whole with a communal benediction.
