Literary Context
Psalm 128 belongs to the Songs of Ascents (Psalms 120–134), short pilgrimage psalms that often connect daily life to the blessing of the LORD. In the psalm’s flow, verse 3 functions as the household “close-up” within a larger promise of well-being for the one who fears the LORD (vv. 1–2). After speaking of enjoying the fruit of one’s labor, the poem moves inward from work to home, portraying blessing in the most intimate relationships: spouse, children, and table fellowship. The following verses widen the frame again toward Zion and the community’s future (vv. 4–6).
