Literary Context
Psalm 141 is a prayer for guarded speech, protected choices, and distance from corrupt company. The voice of the psalm moves between asking God for help and setting personal resolve: watch my mouth, keep my heart from drifting, and do not let me be drawn into the practices of wrongdoers. Verse 5 fits into that larger aim by showing one way the speaker stays safe: he welcomes a righteous person’s hard words as a stabilizing help, while continuing to resist “evil deeds” rather than joining them.
