146:5Meaning
A “happy” person defined by their source of help The verse announces a blessing: the person is “happy” when their help comes from “the God of Jacob.” The line restates the same idea in parallel: their “hope” is placed in Yahweh, described personally as “his God.” The focus is not on the person’s strength but on where they look for support.
Unit 2 (v. 6a): Reason 1—this helper is the Creator of everything
The psalm explains why hoping in this God makes sense: he “made heaven and earth,” then adds “the sea” and “all that is in them.” The piling up of realms stresses total scope—nothing in the known world lies outside his making.
Unit 3 (v. 6b): Reason 2—this helper remains steady over time
The final line adds a time-focused reason: he “keeps truth forever.” The point is lasting reliability—what he stands for and what he commits to does not expire, making him a dependable object of hope beyond the short life-span of human supporters.
