Literary Context
Psalm 146 opens and closes with a call to praise and centers on where to place trust. The psalm warns against relying on human rulers who cannot secure lasting help, then contrasts that weakness with Yahweh’s dependable power and care (vv. 3–4). Verse 7 belongs to a list of Yahweh’s ongoing works that explain why hope in him is “happy” (vv. 5–10). Each line names a vulnerable group and describes Yahweh’s action toward them, building a cumulative picture of reliable support.
