Security at the gates and flourishing inside
The reason for praise begins with “For”: Yahweh has strengthened the bars of the gates, meaning the city’s entry points are reinforced against threat. Alongside physical security, the verse says he has blessed the city’s “children,” the people living within its protection, emphasizing life and continuity inside the walls (children).
Unit 3 (v. 14a): Stability across the wider territory
The next reason widens from gates to the surrounding area: Yahweh “makes peace in your borders.” This describes ordered, stable conditions at the edges of the community’s land—less conflict and fewer disruptions where vulnerability is often felt.
Unit 4 (v. 14b): Abundant, high-quality provision
The final line moves from security to supply: Yahweh fills the community with the finest wheat. The image is not merely enough to survive but good-quality staple food, suggesting dependable agriculture, storage, and distribution under stable conditions.
