Literary Context
Psalm 20 reads like a community prayer spoken on behalf of the king, asking for divine help in a moment of pressure, likely connected with a coming crisis or conflict. The requests move in a sequence: the people call for God to answer, to protect, to send help, and then to regard the king’s worship (v. 3) before asking that God grant the king’s desires and plans. Verse 3 fits the flow by grounding the plea for help in prior devotion: the king has approached God with offerings, and the people ask that these be received favorably as the prayer continues.
